I am fascinated with the decoupling of hardware and software in networking. Specifically when this will take hold in the campus environment. What’s interesting is Cisco standardization of the NOS across catalyst 9k products and their support for YAML and NETCONF.

Right now that’s a big driver for us so that we dont need a ton of power bricks for phones and APs. Granted I’ve only spent a couple hours looking but I only saw 1 switch with PoE.
And don’t even think about -48vdc power with PoE. I’ll admit that there probably aren’t many people wanting that functionality though and even the typical vendors have very few options.
