Chromebooks are not powerful enough to run backgrounds and filters.

Backgrounds and filters can be set under the section called “Backgrounds and Filters” which is on the main settings page. On a school computer or school Zoom account, this is most likely blocked which means you can’t change these settings.

Hi Melanie – it’s been as long time since I experimented with these features, but what I understand is that “Original Sound” is the unfiltered (original) sound of the microphone without any Zoom filters. Therefore, during a music lesson, you’ll want Original Sound turned ON. That way, the original sound of the instrument will come through without any of Zoom’s filters which are better suited for normal speaking (like conference calls).

Just to clarify…once you’ve gone in to audio settings and unchecked all the boxes you mentioned, in the top left corner where the “Turn Off” or “Turn On” toggle appears for original sound…should it be placed at turn OFF or turn ON? That part I’m still fuzzy on! Really appreciate your time! Thank you!

Android and iPhone versions of Zoom got ability to change audio settings to Use Original Sound.
Confusingly, you first must enable this in overall Zoom Settings> Meeting (far down the settings page). You do this only once for all time for this device.

Then, each time you start or join a meeting, after you Connect to the meeting,
press on the video portrait or on the active video. Along the screen bottom you see
five icons (Mute/Unmute, Video On/Off, Share, Participants, and … More …)
Click on “More …” and you will see [Disconnect Audio], Security, Chat,
=> Enable Original Sound <=, and Meeting Settings.
So now you can Enable (and Disable) Original Sound in the course of the meeting.
I find that Enable improves not just how other participants hear me, but surprisingly
what I hear from others. Disable is needed in a very noisy room or street scene.

A life-saver for our music rehearsals. I Hope almost everyone has discovered this.

I am taking jazz piano via Zoom, and you have increased my knowledge of free standing mikes. The comments were also very informative. It’s good to know a lot of people are struggling with similar issues!

I am using mixer to sing on Zoom. Music track will play very good but as long as I start using microphone, music starts drooping off. What will be the issue?

That internal noise gate / Zoom auto volume had been secretly suppressing my signal and dynamics to my students.
Think you sorted it !! \m/
